ICC – opens its eyes; to work on window for IPL
At last ICC woken up to the fact that IPL is here to stay. IPL has been the biggest cricketing show of recent times. It’s hot; it has money and it sells.
Now lure of money and financial safety would be too much for many players to give up international career. ICC has got that message clearly, albeit little late.
ICC has eventually agreed to "explore" a window for the Indian Premier League. Futures Tour Program of ICC will be similar but will focus on IPL too.
Lorgat said:
"We will explore that. We will look at all things. We are busy discussing the FTP post-2012, and we will have to look logically at what is right,"
Problem with creating a window for IPL is, the other domestic tournaments will also request or demand for the similar treatment. All domestic calendars are is sorted out by respective boards.
Has there been any other domestic tournament, which has created so much news, enthusiasm? Will any other domestic tourney have so much money to offer players? I am not sure.
So it’s imperative to create a IPL window for ICC. If there are others asking for same, give them the same window to host their twenty20 tournaments.
