Bopara: The new English batting hope?
Ravi Bopara scored his 3rd century in 3 consecutive innings since Gooch in 1990. That tells a story about English cricket. Batsman after batsman has promised so much, only to disappear into oblivion.
Will Bopara arrest the trend and change the fortunes of his team? Does he have the ability, technical skills and temperament to succeed and make number 3 spot his own? Can he be the next England batting hope?
Yes. He has almost everything what is takes to succeed. Has confidence in his own ability to make runs anywhere. He has gone through a slump very early and has come out successful.
He is young, aggressive and confident. Arrogance expressed in his batting. Problem is, all three test hundreds have come against West Indies. It’s not his fault.
Soon he will play against Aussies. If he succeeds against them, under high scrutiny and public glare he would entrench himself at number 3 for a long time to come for England.
He loves all forms of game unlike some players who are too cocky for their own good. Has a calm head and that would serve him better.
