Million Dollar misses

Well we told you so. Didn’t we? Kevin Pietersen is not worth even one fourth of the money that was showered on him. Andrew Flintoff was a gamble, which did not come off. They were the highest paid players.

There are others who have not given ROI expected to the franchise owners. They all were paid around million dollars. Lets take a look! I am taking the lower cut off at $700,000.

Player Team From Money ($)
A Flintoff CSK ENG 1550000
K Pietersen BRC ENG 1550000
MS Dhoni CSK IND 1500000
Sourav Ganguly KKR IND 1092500
Yuvraj Singh KXI IND 1063750
S Jayasuriya MI SL 975000
Ishant Sharma KKR IND 950000
Jacques Kallis BRC SA 900000
Harbhajan Singh MI IND 850000
V Sehwag DD IND 833750
Chris Gayle KKR WI 800000
Robin Uthappa BRC IND 800000
G Gambhir DD IND 725000
B McCullum KKR NZ 700000

Sourav Ganguly, Ishant Sharma, Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum belong to Knight Riders.  There is no more explanation needed once you know this information.

Surprisingly captain cool Dhoni has failed so far. Great opening pair of Sehwag and Gambhir has not got going as yet. Jayasuriya has failed to perform except one game. Harbhajan Singh has taken 3 wickets in 5 matches.

Yuvraj Singh is yet to start his performance act. Less said about Jacques Kallis and Robin Uthappa the better. They have failed big time.

Franchise owners should start to rethink about their strategies going forward. Just getting big stars at huge money wont change the fortunes. Huge money is invested. You are looking for ROI.

Your portfolio would do well if you have value picks along with 1-2 Index stocks. Only Index stocks will get you to bottom of the heap as exemplified by Knight riders who have four around million dollar players.

PS: Any of these could string together great performances and be really worth money spent. Probability of that happening is 1-2 out these 14 players. Overall, lots money has gone down the drain.
