Dissecting Royal Challenger’s Loss
Challengers were chasing 9.20 runs an over. We will break their chase into 5 over phases and see what happened actually.
First 5 overs: Challengers scored 25 runs for loss of 2 wickets. Kallis had played made 15 off 14 balls. He hit 3 fours, so in other 11 balls he scored 1 run. Jesse Ryder made his second duck in successive matches. Robin Uthappa had scored 6 runs of 12 balls. Required run rate had risen to 10.66.
Second 5 overs: Scored 32 runs for loss of Uthappa who used up 19 balls for 12. Pietersen was on 11 off 14 balls. Rahul was on 15 off 12 balls. Required run rate had soared to 12.80. It was going to be a tough chase from here on.
Third 5 overs: Scored 52 runs in for loss of Pietersen for ugly swipe of Ojha who bowled superbly. Dravid who had scored 47 of 25 gave impetus. He is putting his hands up for to considering him for twenty20 world-cup, I guess. Critics and Vijay Mallya, you can eat your words, shoes and whatever. Think twice before making stupid statements.
Last 5 overs: 51 runs for loss of 4 wickets. They lost Rahul at the start of this 5 over phase, which turned out a big blow. Virat Kolhi played a cameo, which was good from team’s point of view. Bishnoi arguing with Virat was worst advertisement for Challengers.
Rahul got his orange cap back, which he was ready to exchange for few wins for his team. How well is he playing? Have we missed something? He could have been even greater player had he been given a free license like here in ODIs and had tried to enjoy himself.
He summed it up in one single sentence that they lost match in 6 overs either side of the innings . I needed this long post and lots of numbers. Well that’s Rahul and me for you!
