Pakistan will not host 2011 World-cup matches

Pakistan is not safe. At last ICC realized it and sent a clear signal to Pakistan Administration stating until normalcy returns hosting cricket matches is next to impossible. ICC executive board decided to shift the World Cup matches due to the security situation in Pakistan.

"It is a regrettable decision (but) our number one priority is to create certainty and…deliver a safe, secure and successful event,"

ICC president David Morgan said in a statement.

Pakistan Cricket Board is reeling under huge monitory losses, due to no international cricket played in Pakistan in the last year or so. Stripping of world-cup hosting might be the final nail in the coffin.

The Board estimated financial losses of $10.5 million due to the recent development.

"We lose out on earning the hosting fees of the matches…the ICC pays out the host country $750,000 for each match,"

Saleem Altaf, chief operating officer of the board told Reuters.

Pakistan was scheduled to host 14 matches including one semi-final of the World Cup.

Champions trophy also had moved from Pakistan to South Africa. Sources in the PCB marketing department told Reuters the combined loss of estimated revenues since last year is around $40 million.
