IPL launches scholarship – Worth 8 million rand!
The Indian Premier League is really taken to South Africa. Its helping adopted country’s education system. IPL announced a eight million rand scholarship program for schools and individual learners.
Lalit Modi announced the program named as ‘Help Educate And Teach’ (HEAT) on Friday. Event was organized at Alexander Sinton High School in Athlone in Cape Town. Program is supposed to be largest community programs in South Africa by a sport organization.
The school became the first beneficiary of the program, when headmaster Faziel Parker officially received 100,000 rand paid into a dedicated scholarship fund at the school.
Shane Warne, Kevin Pietersen, Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Aakash Chopra, RP Singh and Daniel Vettori represented the players. Superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Priety Zinta represented Bollywood.
I don’t remember anything similar was done when the first edition of IPL was held in India. What does this mean? Is Modi trying to send any message across to cricketing nations including India?
