The man for all moments - Rahul Dravid
If there is one thing that Rahul Dravid does brilliantly then it is this - steady the innings. It really doesn’t matter if it is a 1 over game or a endless test match, he always does that.
Maybe it is a good thing that IPL has moved to South Africa. It is not all bam-bam-boom. Bowlers can make an impact in this tournament. If it is in India, the pitches are dull and bowlers will become jokers.
It is also good for traditional and classy batsmen like Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. You need technique and this is the platform to show case that. When every other batsmen struggled, Rahul Dravid just kept playing his shots.
The strike rate is impressive and the tempo is just perfect from Rahul Dravid. This is what he has to say after winning the man of the match award.
Conditions like these give boys like me a chance. You have to play really good cricketing shots and they need people like me.
Those 3 sentences answer simple questions but if you look deep they are actually statements.
If I can dissect what he meant :
- You don’t have to bam, bam and more bam to make runs and win matches.
- I am fit for any game. Bring it on you little suckers.
- Conditions are not always the same and when conditions change many people fail and I will not.
- You need technique and temperament in 20-20 too.

PS 1 : I made a statement about Anil Kumble in my previous post. I suggested to drop him. I am still giving myself a benefit of doubt after his 5 wicket haul but, I admit - Kumble like Dravid is one tough nut to crack.
PS 2 : Tendulkar, Dravid and Kumble has proved that they can play good cricket even in a cage. Will Ganguly and Laxman do the same? Does Ganguly and Laxman has a point to prove after they were stripped from their captaincy.
PS 3 : Have you noticed that there are actually 4 foreign captains and 4 Indian captains in the Indian Premier League?
