Kings XI Punjab 2009 team

Kings XI Punjab had an impressive 10 wins from their 14 pool games, the second best record in the tournament behind Rajasthan Royals with 11 from 14. They lost to the Chennai Super Kings in semifinal by a massive nine wickets. Actually both Semifinals were duds.

Kings XI Punjab for this edition

Kings XI squad: Yuvraj Singh (Ind), Ajitesh Argal (Ind), Amanpreet Singh (Ind), Brett Lee (Aus), Burt Cockley (Aus), Irfan Pathan (Ind), James Hopes (Aus), Yusuf Abdulla (SA), Karan Goel (Ind), Kumar Sangakkara (SL), Luke Pomersbach (Aus), Mahela Jayawardene (SL), Piyush Chawla (Ind), Ramesh Powar (Ind), Ranadeb Bose (Ind) Ravi Bopara (Ind), Ravikant Shukla (Ind), Ryan Ninan (Ind), Sree Sreesanth (Ind), Shaun Marsh (Aus), Simon Katich (Aus), Sunny Sohal (Ind), Tanmay Srivastava (Ind), Taruwar Kohli (Ind), Uday Kaul (Ind), Vikramjeet Malik (Ind), VRV Singh (Ind), Wilkin Mota (Ind), Yash Gandhi (Ind).

The batting revolves around Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Simon katich, Yuvraj Singh, Luke Pomersbach, Shaun Marsh and Ravi Bopara.

Irfan Pathan, Kyle Mills, VRV Singh, Bret Lee, Ramesh Powar and Piysuh Chawla, will try to control the run spree. Bret Lee might not be available full time. It would hard to stop the run-flow.

Strength: Batting. They have the experience and dynamism. Still its hard to see them reaching last year heights. Marsh, Yuvi, Sangakkara, Bopara and Mahela need to fire in every match.

Weakness: Bowling. Bret Lee is returning but not available for most of matches. Sreesanth is not playing. Don’t see them making inroads into any batting line up.

Indian Boys: Ranadeb Bose and Piysuh Chawla

Watch out for: James Hopes and Mahela Jayawardene.

Prediction:  Could finish anywhere between 5-6. Don’t Expect miracles from this team.
