Strategic Breaks or commercial Breaks?
IPL is making a lot of money, but no one is satisfied as yet. It’s all businessmen who own 8 franchises and everyone is in it for money and more money. Cricket comes last with fame, entertainment taking the next spots. How do you make more money then?
Lalit Modi knows a thing or two about using cricket to make money. He also knows little bit cricket too, which helps him in bringing in changes to the game to yield more money.
Here’s how.
They are introducing something called strategic (commercial) breaks. Each innings will have 5 minutes break called strategic breaks.Giving cricketing makeover to whole thing by converting it into a rule wherein captains could use that time to regroup and redraw strategies.
Logical way to look at is 2 breaks of 5 minutes, 10 minutes per match. For 59 matches 590 minutes or 10 hours of more commercial time would be added. Last season, commercial airtime was 2000 seconds per match. This time broadcaster would get 2600 seconds. It would potentially add $5 million to the revenue.
Go Modi Go! Make more money for IPL, BCCI and Franchises and kill cricket if need be. IPL organizers are treating it like a golden goose.
