Rahul Dravid scales another peak

untitled This is one of those times that good boys also finish first.

Rahul Dravid scaled another summit when he caught his 182nd catch yesterday. It took a while from 181 to 182, who better than Rahul to play the waiting game. I am sure he was itching to get it over but he never showed it.

It’s been a test and an innings that none of the catches flew towards him. When it did, he was alert and sharp to dive to his left to pouch a clean diving catch. May be it looked simple. His anticipation, preparation and movement towards the ball made it look so.

He is unlike Mark Waugh or Ricky Ponting who would take acrobatic catches. His catches were, fruits of continuous concentration, ability to anticipate and making those small quick movements towards ball.

I agree with Mark Waugh when he says Dravid is not a natural slip catcher. It makes it more special. He also caught many a catches off Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh. Slip fielding is an art and Rahul turned it into a science by being methodical and studious about it.

Kudos Rahul Dravid. May, you hold onto the cherished record for years.

PS: Mark Waugh so badly wanted the record, he actually wished Rahul scoring couple of blobs during Australia series and selectors dropping him forever.  Mean Aussie ! I like that spirit.
