APL-American Premier League: New Rival for IPL ?
ICL kick-started the revolution of T-20 league. IPL with BCCI backing used it to snub ICL and grow huge beyond comparison. EPL trying to rival IPL ended up being a non-starter with all problems and scandals it created or was part of. There is new kid on the block.
Jay Mir, the president and CEO of American Sports And Entertainment Group Inc, is planning for a six-team league. It would be called American Premier League, can you believe it ? Cricket and America ? You would be tempted to look down upon this.
It might be based out of New York.Will be played on a converted baseball ground. Terming it as a cricket revolution in America, Mir has plans of having a 6 teams playing in the league.
Premium Pakistan, Premium Indians, Premium West Indies, Premium World and Premium America - the final side drawn from the best of the talent on show from approximately 15 million cricket fans who already live in the USA.
Mir has been in negotiations with former West Indies captain Ritchie Richardson to recruit the West Indian team. Also has found an agent to recruit the world team.
I am not sure what would be the fate of this league. It would not be associated with any cricket board. Also this might provide a lease of life for ICL players mainly from Pakistan. These Players have been approached by Jay Mir. Inzamam-ul-Haq and other 6-7 players have a chance to be part of this if ICL allows them.
Tournament might be staged in October.
