What is Indian about Indian Premier League?
Apparently nothing. It is almost official that IPL will be moved out of India. England and South Africa are the possible destinations that are being talked about. Now, that IPL is moving out of India, I would like to ask What exactly is Indian about Indian Premier League?
On a second thought I have a different question. Why should anything be Indian about IPL? I would say nothing has to be Indian about the league. It is not about the national pride or being Indian. It is all about money.
Modi sold a dream to 8 franchise owners that they will make a lot of money. Like every business, the shareholders are the key. CEO Modi has to do everything he can to keep the shareholders happy. That is exactly what he is doing.
We should leave the whole national pride thing aside and look at the games from a entertainment perspective. IPL perfectly fills the 3 hour blockbuster for Indian audience. It shouldn’t go beyond that.
With that background I took the liberty of renaming the teams if the tournament happens in England :
- Chennai Super Kings will be Nottingham Super Kings
- Deccan Chargers will be Birmingham Chargers
- Mumbai Indians will be London Indians
- Kolkata Knight Riders will be Cardiff Knight Riders
- Kings XI Punjab will be Kings XI Leeds
- Rajasthan Royals will be Sheffield Royals
- Bangalore Royal Challengers will be Manchester Royal Challengers
- Delhi Daredevils will be Durham Daredevils

Its indeed true that General elections are above cricket.As citizens of India we got to support decision of Indian government.Whereas IPL has done commendable job as it is looking for alternative venue.
