Kevin Pietersen is RCB captain, its official now !!
Its official now! KP – Kevin Pietersen is the Royal Challenger teams captain. He will captain the side through the first half of the IPL till April end. Jaques Kallis will take over for the rest. I am fine with KP being captain, but why Kallis? He is not inclined towards captaincy and being all-rounder it adds to burden.
It does not surprise me. There are 3 foriegn players in RCB from South Africa. Coach and bowling coach are from South Africa. Ray Jennings likes to wield some power. Hence the choice of Jaques Kallis. I have no doubts this will backfire. Robin Uthappa would have been ideal, as he captained the Karnataka team during last season.
Malya for his part has always wanted a flamboyant and show pony to be a captain, to add the glamour and glitz. Rahul did not fit the bill. He has got one in Kevin Pietersen now. Hence, he will be captaining Royal Challengers. ![]()
Contrast this with Jaques kallis who is in the mould of Rahul, not a show pony but a great cricketer. He is over his sell by date for T-20. If he is captain he will play all of those games. He was non contributor last edition, I don’t expect him to work miracles this time. So RCB is preparing to fail. Good luck to them.
When Vijay Malya is franchise owner, these are expected.
