Indian Premier League to be held overseas, not in India? Could be in South Africa

Well, well, well, what do we have here? Indian Premier League (IPL) which took the world by storm and which has set all eyes on India, might not be held in India. It will be in a whole another country. No, its not Pakistan.

If held overseas, then I have one question. What exactly is Indian about the Indian Premier League. To me it doesn’t make any difference because I live online. Oh! wait there will be a time zone difference  to cover the match. Why Modi why?

I can understand the reasons behind it. Recent attacks on Sri Lankan cricketers in Pakistan + Recent Mumbai attacks + India’s general election has made the job difficult for Lalit Modi and his dream. He is so desperate to get the thing going that the tournament of Indian origin will be hosted overseas.

Guessing a possible destination should not be that hard. The destination country should play international cricket, be amicable and have significant Indian population and most importantly be safe. That would rule out India, Pakistan, Bangaldesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbambwe. What’s left?

  1. England
  2. Australia
  3. South Africa
  4. New Zealand
  5. West Indies

I would pick South Africa. And that is what the rumor mills are also saying. There is a chance that it could be in England.

I wonder what does the new IPL ads look like? How do the franchise owners share money if a match is played in Durban? Would they rename the teams to be Durban Chargers and South Indians? Aah, it’s getting  too complicated. (source, one, two)
