IPL Fate hangs on a thin thread !

PC Indian home minister P.Chidambaram wants IPL to be postponed. IPL coincides with general elections of India. After unprecedented attacks on cricketers, Indian government does not want to leave anything to chance.

Modi has said there is no way IPL will be postponed. Government’s thought is while elections themselves are such a big event and need full forces for maintaining  peace and order. The paramilitary forces could be short in supply for IPL, which is security threat.

IPL organizers have agreed not to host any matches between 24-48 hours during the venue when the city goes for polling. That seems reasonable. Only the meeting between government and IPL folks would let us know what  is the outcome.

Why government should provide the security to cricket matches more so for IPL matches?. IPL is money spinner for BCCI. Nothing more. Let IPL spend some money to have their own security.  Players are contracted by BCCI or IPL and it is an autonomous body.  BCCI or IPL owns the safety of those contracted by them.lalit_modi1

Does BCCI or IPL authorities pay government for security ? I don’t think so. According to my  sources, they never paid for security in Bangalore matches up till an year. It was all for free. They might not be paying any money for security at other venues.

Time Indian government puts BCCI in its place and say if you want the IPL matches to go per your schedule have your own security.

People (we) should realize, in the end, sports has to take backseat sometimes. Lives and future of billions of people is at stake with general elections. Cricket followers might feel hard done, but as a nation we should realize what is more important for us.

PS: Lets vote.. make our future safe and then happily put feet up and enjoy cricket.
