Is this death knell for cricket in Pakistan ?
It would be last time you might see an international cricketer in Pakistan for a long time to come.
Come to think of it, India made the right move to not tour Pakistan. Dhoni was pretty clear about this in his statement. First the diplomatic ties were severed with the Mumbai attacks and now Cricketing ties are in jeopardy.
Javed Miandad had this to say on the incident earlier in the day.
“It has never happened before in Pakistan, sports persons haven’t been targeted,”.“It’s terrible and really sad. It looks like a well-thought and planned assault. Sri Lanka and Pakistan have always helped each other. They have never said no to tour Pakistan and have always helped us in troubled situations. The foreign teams were already not coming and this [incident] is going to affect Pakistan cricket in the future. This is not to say that cricket will stop. The world will have to stay united and fight terrorism. I hope they just don’t say they won’t tour Pakistan. If we do that we will only support the terrorists’ cause.”
Sorry, Javed Bhai, it’s end of international cricket in Pakistan for years to come. No one will be stupid to risk their lives and be the political pawns in anyone’s grand schemes.
Shahid Afridi hardly knows what he is talking about when he says .
“The future of cricket is in danger in Pakistan. Our country has been surrounded by enemies from all directions,”
There is no way ICC will even think about allotting any 2011 world-cup matches to Pakistan.
Pakistan has larger issues to tackle than cricket. Bring some peace and order to the whole country before we can even think about sports. Its economy is in shambles and close to bankruptcy. It has bigger fish to fry than blaming India.
For me it is a death knell for cricket in Pakistan and it needs catastrophic changes in Pakistan to recover at all. I sincerely wish they do, being an eternal optimist. Not for just cricket but the greater good of humanity.
