MahendraSingh Dhoni and his lady luck !

_44135041_dhoni_outMr. M S Dhoni is not as good as he is made out to be. He is a decent test batsman and wicket keeper. Dangerous ODI bat – safe wicketkeeper. A damn lucky, may be the luckiest of all cricketers, I have watched in last 2 decades. Hear me out before you send those nasty comments.

He had too much luck on his side. He a good captain, certainly not great. He became ultra-popular with T-20 world cup. It was fluke. I have no doubts. Pakistan lost it. Misbah ul haq could have hit last ball anywhere but chose to scoop it over short fine leg. Sreshanth almost dropped it before holding on. Joginder Sharma became unlikely hero and Dhoni a national treasure. Too soon, too short to judge anyone.

He is smart captain. To elevate him beyond best captains is being judge-mental. Indian cricket followers are both sentimental and judge-mental. Lets see him how he captains when not every one is performing and more importantly when lady luck deserts him. Can he win or even get the best out of those teams is yet to be answered. Luck has played a great role in his elevation and where he is now. Rahul resigning ( having  won a series in England after 23 years or so ) from captaincy was one of them. MSD wins most of tosses and has the best option to choose. He is good at it. Till he met .Daniel Vettori. If Vettori’s team mate is to be believed, its suicidal to gamble against Daniel. Dhoni has rivalry.

Dhoni won tosses in 4 matches in recent Sri Lanka series and won all of them. Mahela won the last one and they won the match. Your guess is as good as mine,  on results if MSD had lost all tosses.

He lost 2 tosses against Vettori and India lost both matches. Is there a correlation between these? We will wait and watch for the lady luck to leave him and to judge his captaincy.

PS:  Ricky Ponting looked a great leader, only till he lost an assembly of great players of this era.
