Cricket is not English?

Where did the sport called Cricket originated from? England. That is a straightforward answer. That is what the movie Lagaan tells us too. We just took it by the face value of people who told us it is from England.

A new research by an Australian shows that Cricket is not actually from England. It has its origins in Northern Europe. A place called Flanders which is now Belgium, France and Holland  is credited with the origin of cricket.

The word cricket and the game overall was mentioned in a poem of written by John Skelton in 1553. It is actually a game of weavers, which is now called a gentleman’s game. Quite intriguing.

To me, it really doesn’t matter. What matters to me is that we have a beautiful game called cricket, which is a cultured no-contact sport. And India actually plays and can is good at it. (source)
