The sticky wicket
Sure you guys have heard or followed the Stanford T-20 match up between two not so good teams for a whopping $20 million of prize money. Irrespective of who (West Indies ) won I always felt something was amiss. As to how someone could have made money or even recovered the investment of that magnitude with not many watchers.
Only folks who made money were the cricketers, which is not a bad thing. What about Stanford, how a billionaire would do something so stupid. Cricket and its administration runs in Lalit Modi’s blood. It is different story with MR Stanford. He has never run cricket association to know how things work. He was ready to invest many millions for English version of IPL touted as EPL.
Now comes the story about the fraud Mr Stanford is involved in. The regional office of SEC in US alleges about the shocking magnitude and the spread all over world. Along comes the statements of the ECB chairman Giles saying it was an error in judgment from their end. Given the condition that English Cricket is in, you know they have many errors of judgments from Coach-captain fiasco and later sacking both of them, sending a team with no coach to WI. List could be endless.
All things Stanford did during that tournament are amusing too - especially the ones with the wives of the English cricketers.
There will be more updates on this Stanford “The Sticky Wicket” - name of the venue where T-20 match was held.
PS: English cricket is in limbo and are doing what they are good at, reacting to problems than preventing them.
