Invincible Royale
Rajasthan Royals, lost only 2 matches so far. One with Mumbai Indians and the other with Daredevils. How is that for consistency. Who ever plays for Royals, performs. Who continues to play for Royals continues to perform. They have the chutzpah to drop Shane Watson and go into the match with Super Kings. It doesn’t end there. They have scored a whopping 211 batting first, the second highest score of the IPL so far. That would please the statisticians but not Super Kings. Greame Smith scored a 91 in 54 balls. Swapni Asnodkar who might just find himself in the Indian team visiting Bangladesh scored 41 of 27 balls. Kamran Akmal coming in place of Shane Watson blazed to a 28 ball 53 runs.
Super Kings played very well under pressure with Parthiv Patel’s 54 run innings. Patel along with Raina and Morkel kept the Chennai hopes afloat. Albie Morkel scored 71 runs with 4 big sixers. He fell for the penultimate ball of the match but his innings is an innings to cherish. He was judged man of the match thought debatable considering Greame Smith’s innings, but Morkel deserves every bit of it.
Though 212 was a difficult target from the first over Chennai played well under duress and of course Sohail Tanvir. Sohail Tanvir is now the proud owner of purple cap.
Rajasthan Royals I think has missed a trick. They had a golden opportunity to try a young guy from the pool. Instead they chose to select Kamran Akmal. In an important match they wouldn’t do that. Shane Watson is the obvious choice of any captain. The international players who are almost permanent in the Royals are Shane Warne, Greame Smith, Shane Watson and Sohail Tanvir. Warne wouldn’t leave any of them out unless there is an injury.
Road to semi-finals for Super Kings will be difficult from now on. They only have one match left against Deccan Chargers. The would be hoping to win that match but along with it they want Daredevils to lose to Mumbai Indians today. That would seal the fate of Daredevils and Super Kings will be in semi-finals.
