Daredevils keep semi-final hope alive
Unbeaten 56 runs of 32 balls by Dinesh Karthik kept Delhi Daredevils semi-final hopes alive. Needing 177 runs to win Daredevils started off well. Sehwag hammered Shaun Pollock for consecutive boundaries in the first over. Pollock conceded 19 runs of the first over. Then came the inevitable. Sehwag’s inside edge. Sehwag fell and it was upto Gambhir to carry the fight. Daredevils were sitting pretty at 50 for 1. Gambhir fell for Andre Nel. Dhawan and Manoj Tiwary carried the fight. 11th over by Dwayne Smith saw 2 wickets fall in 2 balls. Momentum swung in favor of Mumbai Indians. Then came Dinesh Karthik. His body language is completely different from what we have seen in the earlier matches. He looked like a man with a mission from the first ball. He played some shots which we wouldn’t have expected from him. He was joined by Maharoof and together they took Daredevils home with one ball to spare.
It is second straight defeat for Mumbai Indians. Interesting thing is both the defeats came from last over finishes. They will move to Jaipur to face the invincible Rajasthan Royals and also to keep their semi-final hopes alive. If Mumbai loses this match it would be difficult for them to move to semi-finals. They should wait for the result of Super Kings vs Deccan Chargers match. Mumbai Indians along with Daredevils is the only team which has beaten Rajasthan Royals. So, Mumbai might fancy their chances against Rajasthan Royals.
Interesting thing is none of the teams, Mumbai Indians, Super Kings, Daredevils have made it to the semi-finals yet. The team which has more odds in its favor is Mumbai Indians. They have 2 matches left.
Whoever it is the semi-finals will be very interesting.
50 matches completed and we still have not bowl out. 2 matches came very close to the bowl out in the past 2 days. Both involved Mumbai Indians. This time they need the luck in their favor in those last over finishes.
