Vintage Jayasuriya toys with Chennai bowlers

Super Kings started off slowly and were helped by few lusty blows by Dhoni and rampant batting by Badrinath. They managed to reach 156 by losing 6 wickets. Kulkarni picked up 3 wickets and Bravo picked up 2 wickets. That score was never enough especially with a Chennai’s weak bowling line-up.

Though Chennai knew Mumbai Indians had a formidable batting line-up, they were expecting a 38 year old Jayasuriya and a 34 year old Sachin Tendulkar. Both of whom had left the best cricketing years behind them and there were very few expectations from the duo. Little did Dhoni’s men knew that Jayasuriya had went 12 years back in a time capsule to regain his form and proved once again that when he gets going the bowlers are mere toys. This innings is remniscent of the treatment given to Manoj Prabhakar in Delhi by Jayasuriya in 1996. Then Indian team did not have any answer then. But now, Jayasuriya is the answer from Mumbai Indians and it is a treat to watch. It is not the T20 format which makes the game batsmen friendly but its batsman like Jayasuriya who will make any form of cricket bowler unfriendly.

Though I do not have any favorites left in the tournament other than Daredevils, I have a hunch that Mumbai Indians might script a comeback saga. They started with 4 straight loses and then gained momentum with 4 straight wins. Their next match with Knight Riders on May 16th will be an intersting match to watch.

I am developing a healthy disrespect for the Knight Riders team. I am not sure why. I want Mumbai Indians and Daredevils to be the other 2 semi-finalists (considering Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab will make it through).

Mumbai Indians wrapped the match under 14 overs and boosted their run rate from -0.4 to -0.05. This will count when it matters the most. If there is a 3 way or a 2 way tie for the semi-final slots. Untill then, the Ambanis will keep their fingers crossed.
