Shoaib Akthar rocks Kolkata
He is back. The rawalpindi express had become the Bengal express now. With no hopes of playing in the national team and sensing this might be his last opportunity to perform, Akthar made the most of it. After skittling out for 130 odd runs Knight Riders needed some exceptional bowling and they did not look further than Akthar. We have witnessed an exceptional bowling performance from Akthar, though I have my reservations about his bowling action. The fielding of Knight Riders is exceptional and Ganguly who is not known for his fielding has done a splendid job. Man of the match was given to Shoaib Akthar but I think Laxmi Ratan Shukla contributed more. It is a spirited performance from young Shukla to score some valuable runs in the end, inflict two run outs and to take 3 wickets in 5 balls.
Daredevils have to blame themselves for squandering such an opportunity. The shots played by the batsman to get out are totally unwarranted for. The required run rate is less than 7 per over and they did not need a heroic performance. All they needed was common sense. At the end of the day they lacked it and lost the match.
The road to semi-finals becomes much tougher for Daredevils from now on. They have to rely heavily on their performance and some permutations and combinations for the other teams. The need Rajastan Royals and Kings XI Punjab to win all their matches along with Super Kings to keep Knight Riders out of semi-finals. They also have to deal with resurgent Mumbai Indians who are riding high with the back of their icon, captain, Sachin Tendulkar.
