Rahul Gandhi for rural IPL

If IPL is the billion dollar baby of Lalit Modi, Rahul Gandhi the congress MP from Amethi is the mastermind behind rural IPL. This tournament is called Rajiv Gandhi Rural Cricket Tournament and is played in and around the villages of the Amethi and Tilo. Rahul Gandhi is the standing MP of Amethi. Here are some statistics of this colossal tournament.

  1. 1857 teams, 27000 players, 260 umpires.
  2. 1819 matches played in 140 grounds.
  3. 3714 cricket bats and 11000 cricket balls will be used.
  4. Winner takes a 3 lakh rupee cash prize and runner-up will be richer by 1 lakh.

The tournament will end on May21 and Rahul Gandhi will give away the prizes to the winning teams. That is pretty impressive.  Now lets talk about the motives.

Rahul Gandhi found the perfect conduit to pull his votes for the next general election. He wants to cash in on his youth appeal and has pulled in a tournament which might cost him under 10 Lakh rupees. Amethi people has never watched television because they enjoy the power only for 5 hours a day. Now, isn’t that a bigger problem than a rural IPL. Wouldn’t solving that issue bring in more votes. It certainly does. But it also costs a whole lot of money. What should we do? Take the easier route. Cash in on the single obsession of 1.2 billion strong nation. Make the poor villagers feel like they are being cared. Appear at the presentation ceremony. Next thing you know you are the MP of Amethi for the next 5 years.

Sharad Yadav took a dig at Rahul Gandhi for appearing to be caring about Bundelkhand and the next morning was seen at a IPL match cheering Shah Rukh Khan’s Knight Riders team. Yadav says those are double standards. While Yadav is no saint but he got a point.

There are enough people taking care of cricket already. Mr.Gandhi can we take care of the real issues plaguing the nation please. Thank You.
